Breathing in the quiet harmony

 
 

I love to facilitate breathwork groups. I see so much body/mind benefit from simply allowing yourself the opportunity to breathe. The body absolutely knows what to do to create harmony and balance within.

In the meantime, here’s another form of relaxation accomplished through mindfulness and the breath that you can do at home:  

  1. Settle:

    1. Sit or lie down. Let the body be heavy and the breath find its own pace. Do nothing to the breath—just notice that it moves.

  2. Feel space:

    1. Sense the simple fact that you exist. Air touches skin, sounds pass through you. Allow everything to be exactly as it is.

  3. Notice the field:

    1. Behind every sensation there’s a silent presence. It doesn’t need to change or fix anything. Rest awareness there—the stillness that holds all motion.

  4. Soften effort:

    1. If thoughts arise, let them float like clouds. No need to push them away or follow them. Return to the feeling of space and breath.

  5. Let coherence happen:

    1. Trust that while you rest, the body’s own intelligence is synchronizing the heart, breath, hormones, and cells—all finding their rhythm. You don’t guide it, you allow it.

  6. Closure:

    1. When you feel complete, open your eyes gently. Carry the same quiet awareness into your next movement or word.

This practice triggers the body’s parasympathetic (repair) mode, lowers stress signals, and allows natural self-correction to unfold. The less you try to control, the more efficiently the nervous system and cellular processes reset toward balance. 

You can do this technique for 15-20 minutes once or several times a day. It’s especially good before sleep or after intense focus—when the field simply needs to breathe itself back into harmony.
