Bored with life? Here’s a solution

Have you ever noticed how every day can kind of feel like the same dang thing? Get up. Take a shower. Eat some breakfast. Brush your teeth. Go to work. Come home. Make supper. Take care of the family. Get ready for bed.

The point is, doing stuff is never enough. It gets old no matter what you’re doing because we’re so much more than just this human form with our five little senses. We are multidimensional beings on a mission to express who we are through our experiences.

In order for our lives to be vibrant and purposeful, underneath all the doing we must know what we’re being. We are humans being something before we are doing something.

If you’re simply going through the motions of doing things without actually consciously choosing what you’re being, then you’ll just be reacting to life instead of creating your best life. Your emotions and actions will be at the mercy of whatever is happening. You will not feel in control.

Not feeling in control puts you in reaction mode and you will not experience a sense of inner security. Living life this way can feel scary, or boring, or dull. Life purpose seems lacking.

But you can consciously choose what you want to be ahead of time. This puts the magic back in life—the enthusiasm and joy of creating just because you can. You begin to experience yourself as the chooser of what you’re being. You feel peaceful and in control again.

Here’s a technique from best-selling author Neale Donald Walsch to help you choose what you’re being before you do anything:

1. At the top of a page, make seven columns and label each with a day of the week—Sunday through Saturday.

2. On the left side of the paper going downward, start with the label “morning,” then “afternoon” and then “evening”. So, you should have a grid pattern going. Seven columns across, and three down.

3. In each of the 21 boxes write a state of being you define as Divine. Here’s some examples:

  • Joyful

  • Peaceful

  • Calm

  • Open-minded

  • Patient

  • Grateful

  • Enthusiastic

  • Courageous

4. Look at your schedule for the week. If you have a stressful meeting in the afternoon on Tuesday, then write in your choice of what you will be for that time slot. Maybe it’s Calm, or Solution-orientated. Use this Being Grid as a tool to exercise your conscious choice before the meeting takes place. In this way you are always consciously creating and not blindly reacting.
