5 ways to beat the Monday morning blahs before getting out of bed

Did you know that statistics reveal more people suffer from heart attacks on Mondays than any other day of the week? (By the way, Saturdays have the lowest incidents.)

I get it. Mondays mean the weekend is over and it’s back to work, work, work. But it’s interesting how many people wake and immediately begin their day with a head filled with things they have to do, and not things they love to do. The alarm rings, and instead of feeling a sense of inspiration for the possibilities that await them, they feel depressed and even desperate as they face the new day.

Here’s the thing: You are designed to do what you love. When you link your daily actions to your purpose, you live the life you love.

I also get that not everyone can automatically quit a job they don’t love in order to explore something else. But everyone CAN begin their day with a better mindset, which automatically gets the creative forces moving in the direction of inspiration and magic making. Here’s 5 simple ideas to create a better, more empowering day before your feet hit the floor.

  1. When the alarm rings and before getting out of bed, stretch, arms over your head, toes pointed downward. Stretch and hold it a few seconds. Let your whole body come alive.

  2. Take three deep breaths, inhaling to the count of 5, exhaling to the count of 5. The added oxygen tells every cell in your body that you are safe.

  3. Put your hand over your heart and say: Today I create a loving world. Then say: I am a genius and I apply my wisdom. Remember, you are who you think you are and the creative force helps you fulfill your thoughts.

  4. Begin a practice of sitting up in bed by remaining on your back, and without using your hands, slowly rise feeling all vertebrae connect and your abdominal muscles engage. This builds strength and appreciation for your magnificent body.

  5. Swing your legs to the side and drink 8-16 ounces of water, beginning the process of replenishing what your hard-working body used overnight to repair itself.

Begin each day using these five little techniques and you’ll disappear all morning blahs.
